Some people need homes that are easier to live in because of their health or mobility. These homes are called adapted homes.

There are not many adapted homes available. If you need one, you may have to wait longer. Sometimes, we may not have a home that meets your needs.

What “Adapted” Means

We say a home is adapted if it has:

  • A shower you can walk straight into (level access shower)

  • Space for a wheelchair

  • A stair lift

  • Hoists to help with moving

  • Other changes to help you live safely

You can see what changes a home has by clicking on the advert. Look in the ‘Facilities’ and ‘Further Information’ sections.

Who Can Get an Adapted Home

Adapted homes are offered to people who have been assessed by us and need these changes.

If your application does not include a health recommendation, you probably won’t be offered the home—even if you are first on the list.

Only bid on homes that match what you need.

Wheelchair Users

Not all adapted homes are good for wheelchairs.

If we know that a home is wheelchair accessible, it will say so in the advert.
