Veterans and Armed Forces community support

We recognise the contribution and sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces community and are committed to ensuring that serving personnel, veterans and their families are not disadvantaged when accessing housing services.

This commitment forms part of the Armed Forces Covenant, a national pledge that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, should be treated fairly and should face no disadvantage when accessing public services. In some circumstances, special consideration may be appropriate, particularly for those who have been injured or bereaved as a result of service.

Additional preference for housing applications

Our Housing Allocations Policy provides additional preference for certain serving and former members of the Armed Forces community who have urgent housing needs.

Any entitlement to additional preference will be assessed by our Armed Forces Outreach Worker in accordance with the Housing Allocations Policy and relevant legislation.

If you think your military service may affect your housing application, please contact us for advice and support.

Being a member of the Armed Forces community does not automatically result in additional preference being awarded. Each application is assessed on its individual circumstances.
